* ''It's the Audience, Stupid'':
What PTV Programmers Want

Through interviews with a diverse group of programmers at stations across the country, a journalist discovers how programming departments choose how to fill their TV grids.

Twenty-four times seven is 168 - that's how many hours a program director has to fill every week at a public television station broadcasting 24 hours a day. For an independent producer peddling a 60-minute documentary, that might sound like 168 golden opportunities to air the project in a given week - Eureka!

* Casting a Wider 'Net with Electric Shadows
Electric Shadows is a pilot project designed to spark the interest of those who are not being reached through mainstream media. With so much of the Web a passive experience, ITVS wanted to devise a means of turning casual "viewers" into active "users." Funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) as a distinct production funding source separate from Open Call, Electric Shadows seeks to change the nature of the Web by offering sites that draw the user in, encouraging him or her to leave their own footprints and share their own stories.
